The Classis, was the brain child of Sir John Blunt, Susannah (Banner) Cropp’s step-father., Linen merchant. Creditor to the linen draper Richard COCKE to import plain cloth from Holland, Flanders, Germany, the Baltic and France, together with Holland and Sletia diaper., The ‘General Court of the Societies of Mines-Royal, Mineral and Battery Works’ appointed Abraham Cropp to the committee managing the ‘Affair of insuring Ships and Merchandize’, he was named a director of the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Involved with the South Sea Company of his step-grandfather, Sir John Blunt. Not a director, Abraham, as an officer of the Company of Copper Mines in the Principality of Wales, was responsible for issuing stock in the company, Bank agent for the Equivalent Company, Edinburgh, Abraham was chosen, along with seven other gentlemen, to audit the accounts of St. Thomas’s Hospital. Abraham’s involvement with the hospital lasted a number of years., In the obituary notices of The General Evening Post "Saturday last died Mrs. Crop, formerly of Fenchurch-street, relict of Abraham Crop, Hamburgh Merchant" |
